ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Turkish warplanes targeted a civilian vehicle in northeastern Erbil province late on Friday, injuring two passengers, a local official and a border guard told Rudaw.

A civilian vehicle carrying four passengers was targeted by the Turkish army in Sinin village in the Sidakan subdistrict near the border with Iran, Sidakan Mayor Ihsan Chalabi told Rudaw’s Bakhtiyar Qadir.

The vehicle was a Toyota Hilux pickup.

Two of the passengers were injured, according to an officer from the Iraqi border guard who spoke to Rudaw on condition of anonymity.

Turkey frequently carries out cross-border ground and air offensives against alleged positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has bases in the Kurdistan Region. Scores of civilians have been killed in these operations and more than 500 villages have been emptied, their residents displaced during decades of conflict.
